CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY

I am a creator. Through and through- I only find meaning in work that I am able to do if it has potential for real personal and emotional impact on my audience. Finding true joy in a creative endeavor is that challenge presenting itself and being overcome. Ideas and Story; these parts of the human experience are both integral and irreplaceable pieces of how I create.

I have always taught my students that the best design, editing and storytelling are done when it does not get in the way of what is being communicated.

I will always explore and push myself to learn. Understanding the how and why of new things fuels my growth.

Hi! I’m Josh.

Screen-printing has long been my favorite way to create. In 2008, I began my first screen-printing business as a student at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design while pursuing a license in Art Education with an emphasis in Painting. Since then, I have continued to create while also dedicating my time to teaching Art to the next generation.

My wife Jenna and I have been married for 11 years and are grateful to be raising our two kids in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs.

I am fully driven to create. In any and every moment there is inspiration; there are parallels and unique harmonies to be found and turned into work. I have entered a season of creativity in my life and I’m finding that I must address and embrace the world around me.

As I encounter new experiences each day, the way that I’ve found truest to myself to process these things is by creating.

I was first introduced to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as a’90s kid who loved to draw. I began experimenting and learning this software in a way that only an 11 year old would. I haven’t stopped. My brother, our neighbors and I created countless home movies on my family’s video camera, but wouldn’t begin learning time-based editing until I was in College. After graduation, I had the opportunity to work as a Video Production Manager at a boutique guitar dealer in Boulder County where I got to meet and mingle with many guitar-nerd heroes. It was fun, but not where I knew I would end up.

All the while, my wife and I were running a Wedding Photography business, I continued screen printing, videography, animation and graphic design on the side. I began teaching Graphics, Animation, Photography, Videography and fine arts in Littleton CO at Columbine High School where I was for 7 years until we moved down to Colorado Springs in the summer of 2023. It was incredibly rewarding; but not the finish line.

Screen Printing has it’s grip on me as I could have always predicted. It has been my constant creative passion that I’ve always known I would return to. It has been my dream and now I find myself here. I’m leaving teaching after this school year (I’ve been in another High School down here this year) to pursue screen printing full time.

The concept of "seeing the Artist's hand" has always captivated me. To see that a fellow being is expressing themselves in such an honest way, to me, is connection. To be a creative being is to be flawed,  growing, expressing and exploring. I pursue all mediums that serve as a creative conduit for my expression and synthesis of my human experience.

GRAPHIC / ILLUSTRATION WORK

Trifold Layout

In an effort to present an abundance of information that could not be condensed, I was tasked with presenting the Columbine High School Art Department offerings to potential new students at an event.

Original design request

Original graphic detail

With numerous and frequent inconsistincies within the original graphic that would simply not work in shirt production, this graphic needed to be rebuilt.

Updated/Rebuilt graphic

Font rebuilt by hand, each character painstakingly created and prioritized coloring to communicate original concept in the most cost-effective way possible.
